Uyo Vice Chairman to Indigenes: Key Into Agriculture, Have Our Massive Support


Vice Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council, Hon. (Pst.) Sylvia Ekong has urged the people of Uyo, to key into agriculture, saying it engendered employment and development, promising to support them.


Hon. Sylvia gave the advice yesterday, at his office, while receiving in courtesy visit, National Association of Women in Agriculture, Uyo Chapter.


The immediate-past Board member while commending the group for the visit, said, “As a farmer myself, I have monitored your activities not just in Uyo, but also at the State level. I must confess that I am very pleased that Women in Agriculture, Uyo Chapter, is taking agriculture seriously.


“Agriculture engenders employment and development and I call on every son and daughter of Uyo to embrace it, I’ll give my support. Through agriculture, we have the potential to feed the entire local government and State. We would also create jobs and prosperity for large numbers of Uyo people.”

She used the occasion to eulogize the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and wife; Dr. Martha Emmanuel, for boosting agriculture as well as encouraging farmers in the State by providing them with raw materials, grants and interest free loans.


Hon. Ekong lauded her boss, the Executive Chairman of the Council; Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, for emulating the fine example of the State Chief Executive. She informed her visitors that the Uwemedimo Udo-led administration, less than 100 days, has opened up hitherto unaccessible roads in Uyo, making it possible for farmers to take their agricultural products to neighbouring communities with ease.


The Vice Chairman revealed plans by her boss to introduce and implement policies that will support cultivation and consumption of locally produced food items, assuring that the people of Uyo stand to benefit a lot, in terms of jobs and expansion of the rural economy.


She called for maximum support for the Uwemedimo led government in Uyo.

Present at the visit were; Mrs. Emem Okokon, Coordinator of Women in Agriculture, Uyo Chapter, Mrs. Alice Michael, Secretary, Cecilia Essien, Treasurer as well as the Patron of the body.
