The indigenes of Ukanafun LGA of Akwa State have expressed fear over movement of strange faces suspected to members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in their various communities.

Eye witness account revealed that the strangers numbering over 20 in number, on a black and black, red barrette dress code started tripping into their communities Sunday evening

One of the indigenes who spoke to this reporter on anonymity said he was afraid and worried over the presence and mission of these unknown persons in their locality.

According to him ” I’m very afraid. We’ve never seen such faces before. We started witnessing their faces this evening. We don’t know their plans either. The government should help us” he added.

Another indigene said “we’re in danger. There is no security as before in our various checkpoint in Ukanafun. The government should help us send back the security personnel. We’re in border areas and we need them most. Just yesterday the strange faces were seen at Ikpe in Etim Ekpo LGA with black and black. These people come in from Abia through Ikpe, Iwukem in Etim Ekpo LGA area. It’s time for government to act” he submitted.

The Chairman of Ukanafun Local Government, Pastor Godwin Inyieng, has imposed a total ban on the movement of motorcycles, keke, etc in the Area, from 6pm to 6am daily.

According to the Chairman, the restriction order took effect from Saturday, May 1, 2021 and affects all the 87 villages in Ukanafun Local Government Area. He said the order was necessitated by the desire of his Government to check, halt, stop or prevent unfettered infiltration of miscreants, criminals and other undesirable element into Ukanafun.

The decision, according to him was taken on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at an emergency security council meeting held in the Council Headquarters, Ikot Akpa Nkuk.

“The ban though painful, is a child of necessity and therefore is in the overall interest of every well meaning indigene of Ukanafun and other citizens residing in the area. As a responsible Government, we cannot fold our arms and watch events go the other way. We must be proactive”, he said.
