Ikono Council Helmsman extols NAIS Leadership on Cultural Day Celebration.

The Executive Chairman of Ikono, Hon. Nyakno Uwemedimo Okoibu, today celebrated with the National Association of Ikono Students, Ikot Osurua Polytechnic, on the occasion of their cultural day celebration.

Represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Simeon Uyanga, the Council boss spoke on the need for students to abhor nefarious activities and rather dedicate themselves to activities that will catalyse a greater future for them, the state and the nation at large.

According to the Chairman “As students you owe yourselves and the society the responsibility of acting like individuals who have been within a citadel of learning.

” You need to arise to the challenge of lighting up the path of wisdom by your actions and deeds. You need to stand up in unison and potray a character worthy of cultured men and women.

” Thankfully, the present administration in the State led by Governor Udom Emmanuel has placed premium on academic advancement through it’s multisectoral intervention in education. It is left to you all as Ikono Students to consolidate on these initiatives and leave behind a positive tradition for generations to come”.

He celebrated the leadership of the student body for putting together the cultural day event to promote the values and cultures of Ikono, which is the cradle of the Ibibio nation.

“The cultural display here and all other activities which I have witnessed undoubtedly speaks volumes. You have not forgotten your root as sons and daughters of ” Ntippe Ibibio”. Please continue exhibiting the values that we are known for and associated with.

“Shun any tendency of being hired either as political thugs or as menace to the society. You are more. You are great. You are game changers and the next generation leaders”. He said.

The highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of an award to the Ikono Council Boss for his giant strides in the development of Ikono vis-a-vis the visible changes since his assumption of office.

Present at the occasion were Rev Dr Amaowo, Dr. George Akpabio, the traditional and political class in Ikono, and a host of students to witness the August festival.
