Gov. Udom effects changes in Ministries of Transport, Environment
Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel has directed that the Directorate of Solid Minerals be moved from the Ministry of Transport to the Ministry of Environment and Petroleum Resources.
He said this was necessary in order to properly align job responsibilities and fast track the Completion Agenda.
The changes were made during a meeting of the executive council of the state government held at the executive council chambers, Government House, Uyo on 12 April 2021.
The meeting which was presided by the Governor, had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Head of the Civil Service, all Commissioners and Special Advisers.
It commenced at 11:30 am (and ended at 6:45 pm) after the rendering of the national and state anthems and an opening prayer worded personally by Governor Emmanuel, who asked for God’s blessings upon the EXCO and the entire State.
According to the Commissioner for Information & Strategy Mr Ini Ememobong, other resolutions made during the meeting include:
“EXCO took briefings on the state of affairs at Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort under the current management of The Icon Group. The Chairman of the Board and the MD of the Hotel presented their 1st periodic (120 days) report showing the developments made and the improvements sought to be undertaken. EXCO expressed appreciation on the work done so far in the hotel and urged them to do better in the subsequent period.
“EXCO also received a report from the Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Sufficiency. The Chairman presented a progress report of the activities of the committee in area of animal husbandry. EXCO charged the Technical Committee to double their efforts and achieve their targets within set time.
“The Technical Committee on Ibom Deep Sea Port implementation informed EXCO that Nigerian Ports Authority had set up a joint committee for the project and that plans for execution are on track. EXCO set up a committee to interface with strategic local Stakeholders to facilitate a smooth takeoff of the project.
“Quarterly Performance Review:
All Ministries and Bureau presented their performance review for the first quarter of 2021. The review juxtaposed the budgetary provisions with the actual performance. EXCO noted that though the reports were commendable, but there is room for improvement and the next quarter performance must be better.”
