Full List of 19 Private Universities given licences to operate in Nigeria | Topfaith University Mkpatak Included

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted a provisional licence to Topfaith University, Mkpatak, Essien Udim local government area, Akwa Ibom state, to operate as a private university in Nigeria.

Licences were also given to 19 other newly established private universities.

The Proprietor of Topfaith University, Dr Emmanuel Thomas Abraham received the licence from the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, in Abuja on Thursday, April 8, 2021.

IBOM LEAK NEWS recalls that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on February 3, 2021, had given the approval of the establishment of Topfaith University, alongside 19 new Private Universities across Nigeria.

In 2020, this online news platform had reported how Dr. Abraham discussed the setting up of the learning institution with the former governor of Akwa Ibom and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The former banker and economist and the former governor met in Abuja where he presented the prototype of the institution to the minister in his office.

In mid-February, after approval for the varsity had been given, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Trade and industry, Barr. Prince Ukpong Akpabio congratulated Dr Abraham over the feat.

Akpabio who was accompanied by the Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency, Barr Esse Umoh, was conducted round the University facilities by the Proprietor of Topfaith Schools.

Dr Abraham who thanked the Commissioner and House member for their show of love and solidarity stressed that Topfaith University was professionally designed to meet up the International standard.

“We are kickstarting with five faculties,” said Abraham who has established a first-class group of schools, which includes Topfaith International Secondary School.

He listed the faculties to include; Faculty of Media and Communication Studies, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences as well as Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences.

“Apart from Law, all other facilities will have 5 to 6 departments,” he said.

“Just like the Topfaith Secondary School which currently harbours Students from over 26 States of this country and more than 6 Countries, the university has been designed to meet international standard and I can assure you that we will have people from across the world coming down to study here in Mkpatak.

“This University will surely produce erudite scholars and researchers,” he added.

Meanwhile, here are the 19 other universities that were also given licences to operate.

  5. Ahman Pategi University, Pategi, Kwara State
  6. University of Offa, Kwara State
  7. Thomas Adewumi University, Oko-Irese, Kwara State
  8. Maranathan University, Mgbidi, Imo State
  9. Ave Maria University, Piyanko, Nasarawa State
  10. Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Kano State
  11. Havilla University, Nde-Ikom, Cross River State
  12. Claretian University of Nigeria, Nekede, Imo State
  13. NOK University, Kachia, Kaduna State
  14. Karl-Kumm University, Vom, Plateau State
  15. Mewar University, Masaka, Nasarawa State
  16. Edusoko University, Bida, Niger State
  17. Philomath University, Kuje, Abuja
  18. Khadija University, Majia, Jigawa State
  19. ANAN University, Kwall, Plateau State
