EWO! How a Man Caught With Stolen Canned Foods Round His Waist
On Tuesday, a man was caught while making an attempt to leave a supermarket with stolen items which he wrapped around his waist.
A Facebook user, Segun Availeth Oyedele, who broke the news via the platform, shared photos of the alleged thief.
In his caption, he narrated how the young man in question visited the supermarket as a customer.
Although he didn’t buy anything, the attendant’s interest was piqued when he noticed the supposed customer’s waistline grew thicker after he got into the supermarket.
It was however discovered that his waist line was floated by several cans of stolen sardines.
Meanwhile, an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a housemaid and her accomplice in a Correctional Centre for alleged break-and-entry and stealing.
The defendants, Happiness Sunday, 23, and Moses Eworo, 34, whose addresses were unknown, were arraigned on a two-count charges of break-and-entery and stealing.
Although they pleaded not guilty to the charges, the prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, urged the court not to grant them bail.
Okunade told the court that the defendants committed the offences around 7am on August 15 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that Happiness, who was employed as a housemaid by the complainant, Dr Ajite Kayode, conspired with the second defendant and broke into her boss’s apartment.
He further alleged that the defendants stole three laptop computers, two handsets, one hard disc, DVD writer, two power banks, 60 Rupis, 300 US dollars and N50,000 cash, said to belong to the complainant.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 411(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Okunade argued that because of the severity of the offences, the defendants were likely to escape trial, if granted bail.
In a ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olanike Adegoke, ordered that they be remanded in the correctional centre and adjourned the case to September 24 for mention.
