Bill For A Law To Establish Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund


A bill for a law to establish the Akwa Ibom State Security Trust Fund was on Thursday October 17, 2019 brought before the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Presenting the Bill on the floor of the House, the member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon (Barr) Otobong E. Bob, who is the lead sponsor of the bill said that the aim is to foster effective, enduring public – private partnership for crime prevention, containment and possible eradication to make the State safer.

The Chairman House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges pointed out that if passed and assented into law, it will pursue private, corporate, local, state and federal funding opportunities to accomplish the State’s security goals as well as review and recommend funding for relevant security projects.

He said that provisions are in the bill for the acquisition and deployment of security equipment and such human, material and financial resources for effective functioning of all federal, state, local and other security agencies operating in the state as well as provide funds for the training and retraining of security personnel in the state.

The Bill is co-sponsored by fifteen members. They include the Deputy Speaker of House, Rt Hon Princess Felicia Bassey, the Leader of the House, Rt Hon Sir Udo Keirian Akpan, Hon Dr Mrs. Charity Ido, the Chief Whip, Rt Hon Emmanuel Ekpenyong Bassey, the Deputy Chief Whip, Rt Hon Otuekong Nse Essien, Rt Hon Aniekan Uko and Hon Godwin Ekpo.

Others are Rt Hon Uduak Ududoh, Rt Hon Mark Esset, Hon Asuquo Nana Udo, Hon Udeme Otong, Rt Hon Dr Usoro Akpanusoh, Hon Victor Ekwere, the Deputy Leader of the House, Rt Hon Barr Aniefiok Dennis and Hon Ifiok O. S. Udoh.

The Bill has been referred to the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges for further legislative action.
