In the early hours of Wednesday, January 13, 2021, I was made to understand that a certain Anwana Esin Jnr. had appended his byline (name) on a news report authored by me and circulated same on exclusive WhatsApp groups membered mostly by people of Oro extraction in Akwa Ibom State and on Facebook.

I am told that Esin has been in journalism practice for longish years.

The report was about a sociopolitical group’s endorsement of a federal government appointee who hails from Akwa Ibom State. The said Esin and the appointee hail from the same part of the state.

From my consultations so far, I have gleaned that some media professionals in that part of the state are lobbying for favours from the appointee.

WhatsApp groups are set up where reports and articles authored by recruited pen-men are submitted for possible reward. I am not bothered by that; what concerns me is the fact that my intellectual property was hijacked without my knowledge.

In the past 48 hours, I have made several calls and sent copious text messages to Esin, seeking clarification on the matter, but he has declined talking to me, perhaps out of false belief that nothing will happen. Esin has also been deleting my comments on the said post on Facebook.

Plagiarism is a serious offence in media practice. I have IGNORED SIMILAR CASES in the past, but I will not let this one slide. I will nullify Esin’s cockiness and deflate his overbloated ego.

Having received legal advice on the matter, I will not hesitate to seek redress in court if he refuses to delete the said report on all the platforms he published it and thereafter tender an apology to me. The apology must be published on his social media handles within 24 hours.

I suspect, Esin is being fronted by a cartel who have an axe to grind with me, and I wish to use this medium to inform them that I am physically and spiritually ready for what lies ahead.
