7th Assembly: We have recorded remarkable strides in 2 years – Aniefiok Dennis

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Information has revealed that the Seventh Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has recorded remarkable and impactful strides.

Chairman of the Committee and member representing Etinan State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Dennis, in a chat with The Press, revealed the House has in the last two years, passed a total of 52 bills and 42 motions and also considered several matters of urgent public importance.

He listed some of the bills which has been assented to by the Governor to include the Akwa Ibom State Management Bill, Akwa Ibom State Bureau for Public Procurement and Budget Monitoring Bill and the Violence Against Persons Law.

Despite challenges posed by the ravaging Coronavirus, the Lawmaker said the House has also made significant strides in oversight functions.

“These are laws that are life-touching and we’re very excited about it. In terms of empowering our people, I can tell you that we brief our Constituencies everyday because we are taking care of medical bills, school fees and so many other things”, he said.

The Assembly Spokesman extolled the Sterling leadership qualities of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey and also disclosed that the House has maintained a cordial relationship with other arms of government, especially, the Executive.

“Our Speaker is doing well. Like when we had the pandemic, he called all the members and said you must go home and do something and we started sensitising people. There are so many things we have to do. Like the boys on the streets, we have to ensure that there is joy”, he said.

To mark its second legislative year, Rt. Hon. Dennis revealed that the House would on Thursday June 10, 2021, launch a magazine highlighting the achievements of the House and individual contributions by Members.
