W0W! See When 11,000 Hectares Akwa Ibom Coconut Plantation Will Start Yielding Fruit

There is every indication that coconuts at the 11,000 hectares coconut plantation will start bearing fruits before the end of the year.
This much, was disclosed by the Director of Agriculture in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan when he led newsmen on inspection round the Coconut plantation,Tuesday.
According to the Agric Director, the St. Gabriel’s Coconut plantation is a massive farm that spans through three Local Government Areas including Mkpat Enin, Ikot Abasi and Eastern Obolo.
He explained that since the Ministry of Agriculture took over the supervision of the coconut plantation in October 2019, there has been tremendous improvements in the soil control and fertility as well as drainage management which has boosted the plants’ growth.
Mr. Emmanuel said that the St. Gabriel’s Coconut plantation has offered employments for over 300 youths with regular monthly stipends.
Mr. Akpan stressed that before June this year, the plants will begin to yield fruits for harvesting. He added that the Ministry of Agriculture has put modalities in place to provide coconut seedlings to schools in the State and ensure that those schools cultivate coconuts for economic improvements.
He pledged the Ministry’s commitment to employ more sophisticated technology to boost agriculture, especially in the Coconut plantation.
Some staff of the St. Gabriel’s Coconut plantation as well as members of the host communities who spoke with newsmen, eulogized Governor Udom Emmanuel for providing employment to them through the Coconut plantation.
They noted that since the Ministry of Agriculture took over supervision of the farm, there has been a remarkable turnaround in the farm.
One of the youths from Eastern Obolo, Mr. Samuel Awaji thanked Governor Emmanuel for his passion in Agricultural Business, which has made him a direct beneficiary through employment in the St. Gabriel’s Coconut plantation and prayed God to bless the Governor.
Several other people of the community also extolled Governor Udom Emmanuel for his investments in agriculture, and prayed for more of God’s blessings and wisdom upon the Governor, to enable him do more for the State.
